Starting: further development of online knowledge platform on drug action mechanisms

Understanding and explaining the complex workings of drugs is crucial for knowledge development and dissemination within medicine and pharmacy. To support this, the digital platform TRC-P has been developed: a free, accessible, online knowledge platform that provides biomedical professionals and students nationwide with high-quality information.

TRC-P, Teaching Resource Centre Pharmacology, provides unique, symbol-based information that contributes to clear and efficient communication about drugs and their mechanisms of action. This visualisation not only promotes the depth of knowledge, but also streamlines its communication in the biomedical field. The platform provides graphics, animations, case studies and interactive questions to make complex topics understandable to both students and professionals in the medical and pharmaceutical fields.

The Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR), in collaboration with FAST, has started improving and expanding the TRC-P knowledge platform. This includes improved accessibility, interactive tutorials, ensuring the quality of the knowledge platform and linking it to the FAST Forum where developers can go for support.

The CHDR Academy, CHDR’s education and training department, plays an important role in the field of both regular undergraduate and graduate education, as well as post-academic (drug) education for the whole of the Netherlands. CHDR’s education director Jeroen van Smeden and Koos Burggraaf the dean of the CHDR Academy say ‘With the increasing complexity of (new) drugs, it is of great importance that contemporary, up-to-date, uniform and easily accessible knowledge is available to all professionals in this field. Supporting this project fits seamlessly with the activities that CHDR is developing.’ The knowledge platform has wide application potential. To make the best use of the available information, it is important to raise its national profile.

The platform is already available now, and the updated version is expected to be live by mid-2025. Want to stay informed? Then visit the FAST and CHDR websites regularly.
