MEB Science Day

Platform Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges

The registration is open for the MEB Science Day on 19 May 2025 from 12.15 to 18.00 in Utrecht (Tivoli Vredenburg).

Check the full programme and register on the CBG website.

The theme this year is Platform Technologies. Platform technologies have recently gained increased attention due to their potential to advance medicines development, and the inclusion of platform technologies in the draft of the new pharmaceutical legislation. A growing number of vaccines, antisense oligonucleotides and advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) are being produced using platform technologies.

During the event, we will explore three distinct concepts of platform technologies, and their opportunities and challenges. We will dive into questions, such as: What establishes a platform? What are the advantages of platforms? Are platforms sufficiently adaptable? What can we learn from the implementation of the vaccine platform technology master file for veterinary medicines? What are the opportunities for n-of-1 therapies, i.e. an individualized therapy developed for and used by one or very few people living with a rare disease?

In addition to insightful presentations and discussions on platform technologies, the MEB Science Day will also highlight research conducted within PhD trajectories in which the MEB is involved. Eighteen PhD students will present their posters, showcasing work on topics ranging from the 3Rs and biomarkers to real-world data.

The MEB Board Day (Dutch spoken) takes place prior to the Science Day. If you would like to attend that as well, you will need to register separately. Registration for the Board Day will open in a few weeks.
