Challenge: Proper preparation is valuable for a license negotiation, as it can accelerate the process and reveal opportunities for other types of compensation beyond just money. If a knowledge institution remains more closely involved and contributes to development based on its core competencies, a wider range of contributions becomes possible. Knowledge institutions must assess on a case-by-case basis which socially responsible licensing (SRL) goals are relevant and achievable, and what forms of compensation are appropriate. These compensations can lead to a better implementation of SRL principles and can also contribute to product development for the company.

Objective: To develop a guideline for applying SRL principles by outlining the possibilities and limitations of licenses in the Life Sciences & Health (LSH) domain.

Project Status: The guideline was published in 2023.
