ATMP-NL progress update: building a national infrastructure together

In recent months, within the ATMP-NL project, the first steps have been taken towards a national, future-proof infrastructure for the development and implementation of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) in the Netherlands. Based on analyses and various meetings with stakeholders, a supported model is being developed that structurally facilitates cooperation, knowledge sharing and support within the field.

In the coming phase, FAST, in cooperation with consultancy firm Inovigate, and under the guidance of a steering committee consisting of Frank Luyten, Markwin Velders, Lourens Bloem, Trudy Straetemans and Tom Oostrom, is working on the further elaboration of this model. The aim is to develop a sustainable concept and implementation plan for ATMP-NL, actively building on existing knowledge and initiatives. Co-creation with the field is central to ensure a widely supported and implementable approach. To this end, the following activities are planned in the coming period:

Focus groups summer 2025
In August, we will organise a series of focus groups with representatives of patient organisations, knowledge institutions, companies, funders and other relevant parties. These sessions are aimed at gathering input on the needs from the field, possible governance and collaboration models, funding structures, and the preconditions for a sustainable set-up of ATMP-NL.

Round table on 23 September
The insights from the focus groups will be compiled into a first draft model for ATMP-NL. During a round table meeting on 23 September, this concept will be presented to the field. Together, we will test whether the model fits the practice and actually adds value.

Round table on 18 November
A second round table meeting will take place on 18 November, focusing on implementation. How do we take the next step from thinking to doing? What are the priorities, who takes which role, and what actions are needed to achieve implementation together?

Working together on affordable access to innovation
ATMP-NL is an initiative by and for the field. Only through structural collaboration can we build a well-functioning system that contributes to accelerated and affordable access to innovative therapies for patients in the Netherlands. Stay informed via www.fast.nl.
